What's going on at Messiah Lutheran Church

The Celebration Of The Lord's Supper takes place today. This is a blessed expression of the unity of faith we hold at Messiah. Those desiring to be participants at the Lord's Table must (1) Believe that in, with, and under the bread and wine they receive the true body and blood of Christ; (2) Confess their sins as explained in our membership classes; (3) Seek the assurance of forgiveness, and (4) Intend, with God's help, to amend their sinful life.

Clothe the Children! We can make a difference in the lives of the 975 school age children in need in Kendall County by helping Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries provide new sets of socks and underwear to start the new school year. Outside Kelly's office door there is a box with bags in it. The child listed on each bag needs socks and new underwear to start the school year. We are asking that you purchase age appropriate socks and underwear and place them in this bag. (Please keep in mind the styles that the children like to wear.) Return the bag to the church by August 2nd. Hill Country Daily Bread will then take these bags and add a set of clothes from generous donations to give to each child. Also enclosed in the bag is a Prayer Card. We are asking that you commit to pray for this child by name throughout the coming school year. These children need our love, support, and prayers to get though the difficult times their families are going through.

Help Messiah youth fund their mission trips - Help the environment. You can now recycle all your paper products, including newspapers, magazines, printer paper, (but no cardboard and telephone books), by dropping them in the large yellow and green dumpster at the NE entrance to the parking lot. All money received from recycling will go to our youth and their mission trips. Thank You!

Global Link: Messiah Lutheran Church is linked to Taiwan, where GEO missionary Mark Wolfram serves. He writes, "I have written before about my eighth grade student Jack, who started taking Baptism classes. This month I found out he is continuing to take them and is set to be baptized in July. Since I will be in the United States, he told me that he could take some pictures for me to see. I was really excited to hear this. Also, during our conversations, Jack told me of another student who is in seventh grade, who is also in his Baptism classes. That student's name is Kevin. I teach Kevin for a small group conversation class, which rotates throughout the year. As a result I have taught him for three months worth of classes this year. Praise God that Kevin will also join Jack in the waters of Holy Baptism, and receive God's free gift of the Holy Spirit. Please pray for both of these students as thay get ready to ne baptized this summer."\

Children and Youth Sunday Morning Bible Classes.

Together With Jesus is a Sunday school class specifically planned with the unique needs of infants, toddlers and their parents in mind. Parents and their very young children come together to learn, explore, experiment and grow in every way: physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially and most of all, spiritualy. This time is meant to help support parents in their role as faith mentors to their children from infancy through age 2. Join us at 9:30 a.m. in the nursery.

Let's Go to Cambodia! Today in Sunday School Mrs. Theis will be taking us on a trip to the tropical island of Jamaica. The LCMS began work in Jamaica in 1993. Over the last six years, the Lutheran Church of Jamaica has grown to where there is an average of 75 people worshipping in one congregation. This past year, four people were baptized and five were confirmed. The church has an expatriate staff of two ordained ministers, two long-term volunteers and some short-term missionary groups -- currently totaling 40 people involved in construction and in vacation Bible school activities. The Lutheran Hour is broadcast weekly on Radio Jamaica. At Christmas, TV stations broadcast Lutheran Hour Ministries' children's programs. The current focuses of the Lutheran Church of Jamaica are leadership development, evangelistic outreach, radio and television ministry, completing the medical clinic, distributing school kits in public schools, and distributing food to the poor.
