What We Believe
The Gospel Message

Man

IS a Sinner

IS Spiritually Dead

IS Unable to Save Himself

Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Ephesians 2:1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins

Romans 5:6, 8 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly...For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

God

IS Just - And Must Punish Sin

IS Merciful

Romans 3:5-6 But if our unrighteousness serves to show the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unrighteous to inflict wrath on us? (I speak in a human way.) By no means! For then how could God judge the world?

Ephesians 2:4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,

Christ

IS All-Poweful, All-Knowing, Ever-Present God-Man

IS He who Lived and Died and Rose for Us, to Forgive Us Our Sins and Give Us New Life with Him Now and Hereafter in Eternity

John 1:2-3, 14 He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made...And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Matthew 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Colossians 2:3 in whom are hidden all the treasurers of wisdom and knowledge.

Romans 5:6-8 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 6:4, 9

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life...We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Romans 5:19  For as by the one man's  disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous.

I John 2:2  He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

Ephesians 2:5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—

John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

Faith

IS More than Mere Intellectual Assent or Temporal Faith

IS Trusting in Jesus Christ Alone for Our Salvation

IS Created in the Heart by the Spirit  through the Word

James 2:19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!

John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,

Romans 10:17  So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

About Us

It's Okay to Ask What is Lutheran

The Lutheran Church is founded on the Holy Scriptures as the Word of God. It also accepts the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed as true expositions of the biblical, evangelical, protestant, and universal faith.

In the 16th century, the Lutheran Reformation began. Its only goal was to remove all unbiblical practices introduced into the church and retain all that was in agreement with the Word of God, or that was not prohibited by it.

The Lutheran Church's central message is that of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for the forgiveness of sins and rose again on the third day, and now intercedes for us before the throne of our God the Father Almighty.

WHAT WE PROFESS

Messiah is one of over 6,000 congregations that belong to the Lutheran Church––Missouri Synod (LCMS), and we firmly hold to primary Lutheran doctrines as revealed in the Bible. You can download and read the full doctrinal statement below.
